Deathly Hallows – Part Two Global Movie Watch & Live Show

UPDATE: We are incredibly lucky to have Special Effects Supervisor John Richardson joining us for the LIVE portion of the show! We will discuss effects on the Harry Potter films, take your calls, and maybe even talk about “Newt” developments…

After over four years, 198 Chapters, 1 Epilogue, and 188 episodes, Alohomora! is preparing to host its eighth – and final – LIVE movie viewing and call-in show! While Alohomora! as we know it may be drawing to a close, we are approaching the beginning of another wonderful journey. Let’s not jump the gun though, because we still have a movie to analysis, and we can’t WAIT to watch & discuss Deathly Hallows – Part Two with all of our amazing listeners.

Join us on USTREAM Saturday, May 14th for this exciting event! We’ll begin the movie screening party at 10:00AM Eastern Time, in which you will be able to chat with some of the podcast hosts & fans from all around the world – all while watching the movie at the exact same time. Immediately following the movie, Alohomora! will be hosting a live podcast! During this time together, we’ll be chatting about the movie, analyzing the movie adaptation from the book, closing up some discussion points on the final leg of Harry’s journey to destroy Lord Voldemort, and of course, taking your calls! You can give us a ring at 206-GO-ALBUS (206-462-5287) or on Skype to AlohomoraMN.

PLEASE NOTE: You will need your own copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part Two in order to join us for the global movie screening.

In the meantime, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook, or catch up with the latest episodes of Alohomora! by subscribing to us on iTunes (for free) right here!

A big thank you Stephanie, aka YoRufusOnFire, for creating a DHP2 drinking game! We suggest coffee for the US West Coast, and a very late night Butterbeer for the Aussies :)

Does that mean next Saturday it will be a book wrap?
Thanks for the heads up on the movie watch.

    • Kat

      Yep!

      • ISeeThestrals

Cool, and one more thing. I was looking back on older podcast in the ‘re-read archive’ to see if you’ve done a movie watch episode for ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’. I didn’t see one so I’m assuming movie watches started with ‘Chamber’?

  • SlytheriNZ

Woohoo!! It’ll be super early in the morning here in NZ – but I have a party that evening AT MY PLACE… so I will be awake at 2am!

  • NotABaboonBrandishingAStick

Do we have to be a member of USTREAM to see the live show? Do you guys watch the chat and answer questions as you see them pop up? This is my first and last movie watch bc I joined the party late.

    • Kat

You do not need to be a member, but we recommend signing up with your Facebook account and then choosing a username. Otherwise, you will show up as Member897474 in the chat and not your super cool username :)

  • Yo Rufus On Fire

Yayy!!!! So excited for the movie watch!!! <3

    • NotABaboonBrandishingAStick

      YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSS.

  • Griff

I DVRed this during last Harry Potter weekend on ABC family in anticipation! Can’t wait.

  • Wokanshutaiduo

I’ve never been here for a movie watch before! How does it work?

    • HowAmIGoingToTranslateThis

it’s multitasking madness. Hanging out in the chat while watching the movie and making notes about what you might want to say during the live show AND playing the Drinking Game. Then hanging out in the chat while chair-dancing to the Alohomora theme and waiting for the show to being. Then listening to the live-show and trying to call in to say or ask something while keeping your nerves and everyone in the chat cheering for you (Drinking Game still ongoing). After the live-show hanging out in the chat to continue talking to other listeners or hosts, smashing mugs and calling “Another!”

      • Yo Rufus On Fire

That is the best explanation for a movie watch I have ever heard!

The first time I did a movie watch, I was a bit confused about how to find the show and get into the chat and I was glad I started early so I could set up my Alohomora username and make sure I could get into the chat. I’ve only done it twice so I hope I remember correctly, but for those who have never done a movie watch, here’s how to get in: (This is the method for a PC, don’t know if it’s different on the Ustream app or a cell phone) If I got anything wrong, please someone correct me.

Go to Ustream.com and click “watch” at the top

In the search box, search for AlohomoraMN

You’ll see the Alohomora logo with the lock. I forget exactly but I think it’ll have a notice about when it’s going to go live or something to indicate it’s the right window.

Click on it to expand and you’ll see a larger video window and a white chat box on the right.

Click on the tab for Chat, that is where the majority of people will be commenting. Get there early to get signed in and test it out. There are always some people who seem to get stuck in the Social Stream because they can’t get into the chat so you’ll need to be sure you can get in before it all starts.

Do Not click the log in / sign up at the top of the page, go to the bottom of the chat box. There’s a box at the bottom that says, “chat with other viewers” click there and you can either log in with facebook or create a username. You’ll need to create the same username that you have on Alohomora if you want to be recognized. You can chat without logging in but you’ll get a random username with a number.

It moves really fast, just type away as soon as you see something in the movie you want to comment on. Also if you want to comment on someone else’s comment you’ll find that as soon as you see something you want to respond to, it’s gone and ten others have gone by, but write it anyway. Responses to your comments will be delayed as well. If you look away for any length of time, you’ll miss a lot, but it can’t be helped. It’s hard to watch the movie, keep up with the chat and post the comments you want to post, but it is really fun and worth the time!

      • NotABaboonBrandishingAStick

Thank you so much! This will really help.

  • JennieisaHufflepuff

I totally misread the date and thought it was this week. Oops

  • Very excited for the movie watch never got the chance to experience any of the others :/ I will be prepared with wand in hand an a 7am butterbeer (non alcoholic) for the drinking game!

  • HowAmIGoingToTranslateThis

on the update: you’re definitively spoiling us. rotten.

  • NotABaboonBrandishingAStick

My version of the drinking game is going to be with a nice glass of OJ at 8:00 am. Huzzah!

  • ThatTimeRemusWaddiwasiedVoldy

So much fun you guys! I hope you will come up with more excuses to do live shows. It was fun getting to put voices to names for everyone who called in, and chatting with everyone throughout. I love our little corner of the HP fandom. Thank you so much Alohomora team for bringing us all together.

    • SnapesManyButtons

Special guests like they had today would be perfect for future live shows! We could listen to the hosts interview the guest, ask questions real time ourselves and then discuss the topics the guest is related to afterwards. And probably in less than 6 hours! I really hope they do find a way to do more live shows.

      • ThatTimeRemusWaddiwasiedVoldy

That is a fantastic idea! Other guests who were involved with the making of the movies would be amazing. Or, omg, someone involved on the publishing end with the books! I must say, I am really happy with the caliber of guests they manage to have on, while still letting us regular folks make appearances too. It is such a varied and exciting mix, never knowing who it’s going to be, whether it’s someone we know from the comments/forums, or a complete unexpected and awesome surprise like Chris Rankin. So much appreciation and love for Alohomora! the past few weeks.

Hey guys I missed the livestream because it was super late down under; is there any recording for us to listen to?

    • ISeeThestrals

There usually is. Maybe they’re bringing it out later. I tend to listen to livestreams again as ads and tech issues cause me to miss parts of the livestream show.
