Well I'm still not entirely sure they can move into each others' pots. Because Sprout does say "The moment they start TRYING to move into each other’s pots, we’ll know they’re fully mature". So, this could mean that they can, but need to attempt it a few times first. But I always took it to mean that they can't actually move pots by themselves, they just want to. And thanks ZeoRegrediens, I actually had a dream about a Mandrake party one time, when I was in the middle of CoS :D

This was pretty much what I assumed too. But then I was confused about how exactly they partied, then.

And your dream.. Hahahaaha! I am claiming this as my greatest ever achievement.

Edit: Jo's greatest ever achievement.. I didn't write the books. ( :( )

Haha, me too, including several where I was helping Harry, Ron, and Hermione fight Voldemort in Hogwarts (this was before DH, by the way...)...

Maybe in the wild, mandrakes can move through the dirt and cozy up (is this how we get baby mandrakes?), so when potted, perhaps their attempts to get in one another's pots results in a lot of tipped over pots and exposed adolescent mandrakes. They can't move anymore, as there is probably not enough dirt for them to move...I picture it like a fish out of water, flopping around, but not getting anywhere. This is not only obnoxious to clean up, but also dangerous due to their screams, so I can see why Sprout would keep an eye out for the signs.

No idea about the parties, though.

And these roots are apparently shaped in molds. See here for a brief message-board discussion.

It's pretty neat that it can happen, but how disappointing if it's true.

If.. if they really are just shaped that way by humans.. I'm going to need to go into a period of mourning.
