Chapter: Part 1

The movie review of SS/PS in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at that time began with the words:

"Relax. It's okay."

I think part of the reason Steve Kloves' screenplay for this first film was essentially very cautious and conservative was that Warner Brothers realized they had a very large and very deeply engaged fandom on their hands. If they messed the film up, they would never be forgiven. Thus I think they played it safe on the first film. They were shooting not for a masterpiece but something that was very true to the book so as to disappoint, upset, or otherwise alienate as few people as possible. I personally think that was the right approach at the time, and think they achieved their goal.

All of skgai's essays are detailed, creative, well-thought-out and wonderfully written. This one is no exception. Really nice work!!
