Chapter: Chapter 1

I agree that Pettigrew was a coward.
As for removing the Fidelius Charm? How could he do that? The book mentions that the Secret Keeper only breaks the spell when the secret is mentioned. I guess, that when Snape heard the prophecy, he went to Voldemort and told him part of it. Sometime later, Snape told Dumbledore what Voldemort planned to do and that's when Dumbledore told him that the Potters would go into hiding. Next, James and Sirius discussed who would be secret keeper. James wanted Sirius to be secret keeper and at first Sirius agreed, but then decided to have Peter secret keeper. We can guess that Peter had a good role as being a Marauder because he could keep all secrets. (my opinion) After Voldemort killed James and Lily, the house could be seen by others because the secret was broken. All that Muggles could see was a run-down house. The wizards/witches saw more than a broken down house. They saw a memorial to a couple of brave wizards. The fact that Voldemort had horcruxes, the fact that Lily had sacrificed her life for Harry, plus, the energy of the AK curse caused the house to explode. As for Grimmauld Place, Dumbledore was secret keeper. After Sirius died, the Order couldn't use the place for Headquarters. But, that didn't change the fact that Grimmauld Place was still under the Fidelius Charm. It wasn't until Dumbledore died that everyone who knew where Grimmauld Place was, became Secret Keeper.
I didn't know that any Death Eaters had places under the Fidelius Charm. I know that Bill Weasley (member of the OoTP) was secret keeper for his Shell Cottage, and Arthur Weasley was secret keeper at the Burrow and I think for Auntie Muriel's place.
To me, Peter gave up being brave for his friends. Mainly because of Voldemort and maybe Snape said something to him. Maybe they used Veritaserum on him. We don't find out about Veritaserum until GOF and Jo didn't want to mention it too soon.
I do like your article.

I honestly don't know why Pettigrew betrayed his friends. I think he was a coward. I don't know how he get mixed up with the Dark Lord, especially because he wasn't the brightest or the best at anything. Out of all the characters, I think I dislike Pettigrew the most (or Umbridge). I don't know about him completely removing the fidelius charm; I always assumed others could see it because such dark magic happened in that house!

Author's Response: See the theory of others being able to see the house without the Fidelius Charm being removed just because of all the dark magic just doesn't quite hold up. If you think about Grimmauld Place and other homes of Death Eaters protected by Fidelius Charms, those held. Though it was the worst of the Unforgivable Curses used in the Potters' home, I don't think it was enough to break the Fideliius Charm. As for Peter being a coward. In some ways, yes I'm sure he was, but there had to be some bravery somewhere in him. To play devil's advocate (I personally cannot stand the man myself, and am in no way defending what he did), it does take bravery to go against someone as powerful as Dumbledore. In essence, by betraying the Potters and the Order, that is what he was doing. We also must remember, the Sorting Hat did place him in Gryffindor and one of the traits of that House is bravery.
